Gilewicz’ “Wearable Art” period dates from 1988 when he did a painting on the back of a leather jacket. That work led to his first large mural commission called “Untitled,” a piece that was created for a New York City boutique. Gilewicz eventually painted designs on hundreds of leather jackets, coats, gloves, pants, shoes and handbags. He sold painted leather works to numerous stores, boutiques and private clients around the world, including Eric Clapton, Joe Cocker, Iggy Pop, Slash, Aaron Neville, Steve Ray Voughn, Kansai Yamamoto, Steve Vai and others.
